ERP X is an experiment in using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras and AI computer vision to improve safety and convenience for road users. The ERP X mobile app automates road payments for ERP fees, using just traffic cameras and your mobile phone. The offences dashboard shows ops offences potential traffic or vehicle violations detected.

Key Highlights

Q1 2025 Jan-Mar

  • Built an offences dashboard for ops officers to review potential violations detected by our ANPR cameras: (1) off-peak plate vehicles driving during restricted hours; and (2) lorries with inadequate safety measures. (1) uses a rules based logic. (2) uses AI computer vision.
  • Launched user pilot to test real-life performance.
  • Onboarded new engineer and product operations staff.
  • Installed 26 additional ANPR cameras.

Q4 2024 Oct-Dec

  • Released “Journeys” feature on mobile app. Journeys is a prototype for distance-based charging, it shows the driver the route and distance travelled. Distance travelled is calculated by stitching together data from ANPR detection of their license plate and route data.

Q3 2024 Jul-Sep

  • Deployed 8 cameras at 5 locations around Bras Basah to test
    • ANPR performance in production conditions.
    • Use of multiple cameras for different lanes of the same road.
  • Designed and launched a public website.

Q2 2024 Apr-Jun

  • Valiated ANPR accuracy for different models ranging from 85% to 100% depending on a range of scenarios.
  • Organised a user pilot with 110 drivers and 3 ANPR camera locations to test real-life performance.
  • Redeveloped the prototype mobile app to incorporate user feedback across all age groups.

Q1 2024 Jan-Mar

  • Built a mobile app prototype as part of Hack for Public Good 2024
    • Can identify the license plate numbers of vehicles passing through using optical character recognition (OCR) and computer vision.
    • Notify drivers with live information on payment transactions.
    • Replace cash card use with frictionless, fully automated payments.
    • Can support distance-based pricing.
